Overseas Lessons May Help Contain Hong Kong’s Covid Surge

As new US Covid-19 cases plummet by over 90% since a January peak, Hong Kong starts to experience the worst wave of infection, overburdening its public health system. The current pandemic situations in the global financial hub are concerning with a rising number of suspected or confirmed Covid-19 patients waiting to be admitted to hospitals. The grim scene is in stark contrast to Hong Kong’s image in the past two years as a poster child of pandemic control success. By the end of 2021, few countries or cities around the world could put the pandemic under control like Hong Kong, where only 12,650 cases and fewer than 220 deaths were recorded.
