HKBU Distinguished Lecture:
Seeing Through the Hype or Demystifying the Metaverse by Prof. Yike Guo

The concept of Metaverse gains significant attention from both academic and industrial communities. It is widely agreed that a metaverse refers to a network of 3D virtual world with strong social connections. Many most recent developed technologies, such as blockchain, cryptocurrency, XR and AI constitute core components of the paradigm. However, this term has been considerably over-used as a buzzword to exaggerate development progress for these related technologies. In this talk, Prof. Guo would like to provide a comprehensive discussion of the development of this paradigm from the perspectives of future humanity and the economy in a new internet era.

HKBU Annual Christmas Lecture:
A Gentle Introduction to AI Creation by Dr. Harry Shum

World-renowned artificial intelligence expert Dr Harry Shum, recipient of the honorary doctorate in Science from HKBU in 2020, delivered a talk on “A Gentle Introduction to AI Creation” at the HKBU Annual Christmas Lecture on 21 December 2021.   

 

In the Lecture, Dr Shum talked about the recent development in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deep Learning, which has made AI creation an exciting cross-disciplinary research area with many practical application scenarios. He then introduced three principles of AI creation and discussed the full pipeline of the AI creation process, from creating to rendering to packing.
