自2011年加入香港浸会大学文学院人文及创作系以来，周耀辉教授充分证明了自己是一位出色的学者，他跨越了传统与创意成果之间的界限，真正展示出文学院研究的最终理想。

周耀辉教授在性别与性研究，创意及文化研究等领域均有极高造诣。他的成就也由多方面体现出来，包括其出版书刊及研究的数量、出版刊物的种类（学术期刊、特刊、论文及书籍）等，他的研究往往能获发表於国际顶尖期刊及出版社。同时，他所获得的多样资助也印证了其成就。过去十年，周博士在香港浸会大学获得了两项研资局资助，一个是杰出青年学者计划，另一个则为优配研究金。与此同时，周博士发表的学术研究质素之高，令其学术网络得以扩阔，而他的国际声誉也因而日益增长。周教授也因此获邀加入两个分别由欧盟以及美国梅隆基金会资助的国际研究计划。

周教授除了在学术界得到专家的广泛认可外，他在学术界以外的社区参与亦堪称典范，他对社会带来的改变，完美示范了身为文学及人文研究学者该如何贡献社会。成为学者之前，周教授积极从事创意工作，不仅赢得许多文学奖项，也赢得众多读者的支持。考虑到大学对创意媒体和实践研究的重视，他决定将自己的两个职业合而为一。周教授除了全情投入学术研究外，亦透过自身的声誉和成就在公共领域投放他的才能，为半公营机构、创意社区、流行音乐会和艺术展览作出贡献。此外，他是著名的作词人，为香港，台湾和中国大陆各地的流行歌手创作了逾千首作品。他与流行二人组合达明一派和M+的合作亦推动了学术工作的创新，为未来的变革开辟了全新的空间。

周教授目前的研究兴趣涉及性别与创作。他今次利用优配研究金资助（2018-19），探讨有关中国单身女性和老化的议题，并以整容手术、爱情、人际关系以及退休安排的状况作为个案分析。这项研究建基於他先前一项由欧盟资助，有关上海单身女性及创意工作的计划。而他与香港浸会大学的庄白莉博士和鲁汶天主教大学的Giselinde Kuipers教授亦合作研究跨地域的（面部）美容方式。此外，周教授正准备有关香港流行音乐的手稿、期刊文章和书籍章节，继续探讨创意的理念和实践。
