自2011年加入香港浸會大學文學院人文及創作系以來，周耀輝教授充分證明了自己是一位出色的學者，他跨越了傳統與創意成果之間的界限，真正展示出文學院研究的最終理想。

周耀輝教授在性別與性研究，創意及文化研究等領域均有極高造詣。他的成就也由多方面體現出來，包括其出版書刊及研究的數量、出版刊物的種類（學術期刊、特刊、論文及書籍）等，他的研究往往能獲發表於國際頂尖期刊及出版社。同時，他所獲得的多樣資助也印證了其成就。過去十年，周博士在香港浸會大學獲得了兩項研資局資助，一個是傑出青年學者計劃，另一個則為優配研究金。與此同時，周博士發表的學術研究質素之高，令其學術網絡得以擴闊，而他的國際聲譽也因而日益增長。周教授也因此獲邀加入兩個分別由歐盟以及美國梅隆基金會資助的國際研究計劃。

周教授除了在學術界得到專家的廣泛認可外，他在學術界以外的社區參與亦堪稱典範，他對社會帶來的改變，完美示範了身為文學及人文研究學者該如何貢獻社會。成為學者之前，周教授積極從事創意工作，不僅贏得許多文學獎項，也贏得眾多讀者的支持。考慮到大學對創意媒體和實踐研究的重視，他決定將自己的兩個職業合而為一。周教授除了全情投入學術研究外，亦透過自身的聲譽和成就在公共領域投放他的才能，為半公營機構、創意社區、流行音樂會和藝術展覽作出貢獻。此外，他是著名的作詞人，為香港，台灣和中國大陸各地的流行歌手創作了逾千首作品。他與流行二人組合達明一派和M+的合作亦推動了學術工作的創新，為未來的變革開闢了全新的空間。

周教授目前的研究興趣涉及性別與創作。他今次利用優配研究金資助（2018-19），探討有關中國單身女性和老化的議題，並以整容手術、愛情、人際關係以及退休安排的狀況作為個案分析。這項研究建基於他先前一項由歐盟資助，有關上海單身女性及創意工作的計劃。而他與香港浸會大學的莊白莉博士和魯汶天主教大學的Giselinde Kuipers教授亦合作研究跨地域的（面部）美容方式。此外，周教授正準備有關香港流行音樂的手稿、期刊文章和書籍章節，繼續探討創意的理念和實踐。
