A research project led by Dr Han Bo, Assistant Professor of the Department of Computer Science, titled “The Research on Trustworthy Federated Learning with Application to PaddlePaddle” was awarded by 2023 China Computer Federation CCF-Baidu Open Fund, jointly supported by the CCF and Baidu. The project aims to develop trustworthy federated learning techniques for training foundation models reliably, which can be deployed to Baidu deep learning platform called PaddlePaddle.

Established in 2020, the CCF-Baidu Open Fund is committed to fostering global collaboration between industry and emerging scholars, while also providing crucial support for innovative research aligned with Baidu's strategic objectives. This year, the fund has expanded its scope, encompassing seven cutting-edge research areas spanning Deep Learning Foundations, Deep Learning Frameworks, Reasoning and Deployment, Large Language Models, Computer Vision, Cross-modality Large Models, AIGC Applications, and AI for Science. Impressively, nearly 200 applications were submitted from around 100 universities. Following a rigorous selection process, 26 projects from 23 universities have been chosen to receive funding, with a funding acceptance rate of approximately 13.5%.
