Professor Kilian Weinberger
Professor Kilian Weinberger presents groundbreaking research findings on object detection in autonomous driving, revolutionising the future of transportation.

Professor Kilian Weinberger, a highly acclaimed machine learning and artificial intelligence expert from the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University, delivered an online distinguished lecture titled “Improving Object Detection from Repeated Traversals of the Same Route” on May 19, 2023 (Friday). The lecture focused on the crucial topic of object detection in the context of autonomous driving.

During his presentation, Professor Weinberger discussed the challenges and applications of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) in various industries and introduced the concept of 3D perception in self-driving vehicles. He also shared his insights into the transformation of persistence prior visualisation to pseudo-labels, providing valuable information on this innovative approach. Furthermore, he presented groundbreaking research findings on a new dataset called Ithaca-365, demonstrating its exceptional performance in terms of repeated routes, weather diversity, environmental variations, and traffic conditions.

Prior to joining Cornell University, Professor Weinberger served as an Associate Professor at Washington University in St. Louis and worked as a research scientist at Yahoo! Research. His extensive research portfolio spans several areas, including metric learning, Gaussian Processes, computer vision, perception for autonomous vehicles, and deep learning. His expertise in machine learning and its practical applications has earned him global recognition in the field.
