Digital technologies, in particular, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, have given us powerful tools and new ways of working for ordinary tasks—and, in some cases, these technologies allow individuals to outsource human tasks to them in entirety, thereby seemingly eradicating the role of humans and the need for specific skills such as reading, writing, and critical and creative thinking. Despite bringing new conveniences and even previously unimagined possibilities, the replacement and displacement of humans raise fundamental questions about the value of human activities and their significance to people's lives, as some of those activities and skills arguably are constitutive of people's well-being.
This mini-workshop aims to bring together speakers of different backgrounds for a cross-disciplinary exploration into the opportunities and threats presented by digital technologies to well-being, as well as various ways digital well-being can be—or, should be—understood.
