Powering your research: A showcase of HKBU central facilities driving discovery at Research Mixer

BACK

The Research Office hosted an engaging Research Mixer on 8 October, successfully spotlighting the advanced capabilities of its central research facilities. The event, titled “Powering Your Research,” gathered the research community featuring presentations and tours for a showcase of the two featured facilities among the four key central facilities: the Advanced Life Sciences and Mass Spectrometry Laboratory (LSMS) and the Life Science Imaging Centre (LSIC).

Professor Chris Wong, Director of the LSMS, detailed how his laboratory leverages mass spectrometry and imaging to probe the microscopic world, supporting interdisciplinary projects across diverse fields. He was followed by Professor Zhou Changsong, Director of the LSIC, who explained how the Centre’s integrated imaging suite—including its MRI scanner—enables in-depth exploration of the human brain and body. Both directors also offered the idea of holding training sessions for researchers interested in using the facilities but unfamiliar with the equipment and its potential. Throughout their presentations, they shared numerous examples of interdisciplinary research, illustrating how these shared resources can catalyse collaboration and innovation. A lively question-and-answer session then allowed attendees to discuss specific applications for their work.

To accommodate high interest, laboratory tours were held both before and after the main presentations, allowing participants to explore both facilities. The event provided a dynamic platform for researchers to connect and discover how these shared resources can propel their research forward.
