Professor Michael Ng honoured as new fellow of American Mathematical Society (AMS)
Following the recent endowed professorship in Data Science of Professor Ng Kwok Po, Michael from the HKBU Faculty of Science, we are of immense pride to share that Professor Ng has been named one of the Fellows of the AMS for 2025 among the 41 distinguished mathematical scientists from around the world, a true testament of his exceptional contributions to the field.
Well acknowledged by their peers, AMS members designated as Fellows of the AMS were chosen from a “large and excellent pool of candidates”, as noted by AMS President Bruna Kra. These fellows have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilisation of mathematics.
Currently, Professor Ng is the Dean of Science, Chair Professor in Mathematics, and Chair Professor in Data Science at HKBU. He has received numerous accolades for his accomplishments in computational and applied mathematics, machine learning, and data science. He ranks among the top 1% of scholars by Essential Science Indicators in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Engineering, and recognised among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists for 2024 by Stanford University. He was elected a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and awarded the 12th Feng Kang Prize of Scientific Computing.
