HKBU was awarded the operation service deed of the first Chinese Medicine Hospital (CMH) in June 2020. The establishment of such first CMH in Hong Kong will facilitate HKBU to meet the public’s keen and ongoing demand for quality Chinese medicine services and bring huge development to this traditional medicine. Challenges ahead are there. How can the pain points of Chinese medicine development be tackled thus to facilitate the application of Chinese medicine, locally and internationally? The major pain points include but are not limited to i) Chinese medicine theories are not easy to be understood; ii) The efficacy and safety of Chinese medicine, such as acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine are not rigorously assessed; iii) The quality of herbs and Chinese medicine, from raw materials to the proprietary products is a big concern of the patients and the public, and iv) How can Chinese medicine be integrated into the public medical system? These topics will be discussed in the lecture. More constructive comments, suggestions, and dedicated research works are needed from multi disciplines to make the classic wisdom help society, especially for the aging one.
