We are excited to share that Dr Yu Rongjun, Associate Professor at the Academy of Wellness and Human Development of the HKBU Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, has been awarded a Healthy Longevity Catalyst Award (Hong Kong) 2024 by the RGC.
Dr Yu’s awarded project is named “Brain Connectome of exceptional longevity: magnetic resonance imaging of (near) centenarians in Hong Kong”, which aims to uncover how some of the near centenarians and centenarians remain cognitively healthy. Utilising the 3T MRI facility and advanced brain imaging and network analysis methods to investigate brain integration and segregation patterns in people aged over 95, Dr Yu targets to establish Asia’s inaugural brain imaging centenarian dataset, and reveal significant insights into the aging process and inform interventions to enhance cognitive health and mitigate age-related cognitive decline.
The Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards (Hong Kong) presents ten awards each year. The RGC has collaborated with the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) of the United States for these Awards since 2022, aiming to call for bold and innovative ideas from across disciplines with the potential to extend the human healthspan.
