Prof. Christy Cheung, Professor of the Department of Finance and Decision Sciences, has been conferred the title “RGC Senior Research Fellow” in the inaugural Research Grants Council (RGC) Senior Research Fellow Scheme (SRFS). HKBU will hence receive a fellowship grant of around HK$7.8 million over a period of 60 months.
Prof. Cheung is an internationally-recognised scholar with research expertise in the field of technology use and well-being. The research project she leads in the SRFS will examine cybermobbing on social media. It will identify technology-based prevention and intervention strategies, and examine their effectiveness. The findings are expected to provide practical insights and also advance theory on cyberbullying.
The RGC SRFS was introduced to provide sustained support to exceptionally outstanding academics to facilitate their research and promote research excellence. The ten SRFS awardees were selected for their research capability, contribution and potential impact of the proposed research project, proven research track record, leadership quality and vision in the chosen area of research. Prof. Cheung is one of the three SRFS awardees from the Humanities, Social Sciences and Business Studies (HSSB) disciplines. The selection panel highly commended the nominees and the research proposals submitted, and recognised the enthusiasm displayed by the finalists during their interviews.
