Insights from Research Mixer: Elevating research with Visualization Research Centre
At the latest “Research Mixer” event on November 13, 2024 (Wednesday) at HKBU’s Visualization Research Centre (VRC), its Director Professor Jeffrey Shaw, Chair Professor of the Academy of Visual Arts, provided an extraordinary visual experience to the HKBU research community by leading an eye-opening guided tour and various stunning projects. This tour encouraged participants to uncover potential collaboration opportunities with the VRC for their research projects and explore ways to enhance their work.
"Everything and anything is possible; whatever you imagine can be done," Professor Shaw remarked. Professor Shaw showcased VRC’s world-first 360-degree 3D LED cinematic screen, nVis, and the vertical 4-metre diameter, iDome, for 180-degree projection, sharing various stunning projects that involved collaborations spanning arts, cultural heritage, science, gaming, and tourism. These projects highlighted the boundless possibilities within this innovative environment.
One notable project is a virtual archive of historical Buddhist sites and artifacts across Eurasia, which can be explored through interactive 3D glasses. This reduces the need for physical travel, enhancing virtual tourism and historical exploration, and demonstrating how technology can make cultural heritage more accessible and engaging. "Actually, you are looking from here to infinity," Professor Shaw explained, underscoring the limitless potential and depth of the visual experiences made possible by the VRC's state-of-the-art facilities.
Professor Shaw’s insights inspired attendees to explore new methodologies and collaborative opportunities. The innovative environment at VRC fosters cooperation on various research projects, allowing participants to leverage advanced visualisation technologies to enhance their work.
