



We are thrilled to announce that Professor Ng Kwok Po, Michael (HKBU Faculty of Science) has been awarded about HK$800,000 from Partnership Research Programme (PRP) (subsumed under the Innovation and Technology Support Programme since April 2025) by the Innovation and Technology Commission under Innovation, Technology and Industry Bureau of the HKSAR Government.
Professor Michael Ng is Dr. Elizabeth K.S. Law Endowed Professor in Data Science, Chair Professor in Mathematics and Chair Professor in Data Science at the Department of Mathematics. Also, he is Chair Professor at the Department of Computer Science. His research interests span Applied and Computational Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Data Science and Scientific Computing. Professor Ng’s awarded project, “Multivariate time series forecasting by using graph neural networks with applications to financial technology”, aims to develop an AI-powered Fintech system for global markets, focusing on Hong Kong technology. It mainly enhances currency trading analysis and agricultural commodity analysis, enabling data-driven decisions to boost profitability and reduce risks, advancing Hong Kong’s leadership in Fintech.
Launched in January 2019, the PRP aims to support applied research and development (R&D) projects undertaken by R&D Centres or designated Hong Kong’s public research institutes collaborating with companies. The PRP is under the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) administered by the Innovation and Technology Commission, aiming to increase the added value, productivity and competitiveness of local economic activities.
