On 12 March, the first day of the Symposium hosted at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) and Dr. Kennedy Y.H. Wong Endowed Professor in Chinese Medicine (Above), delivered a presentation to fellow AE members and distinguished scientists.

Professor Lyu, who has recently been selected as an expert advisor for the Hong Kong SAR Government’s New Medical School, explored the potential of integrating traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles with contemporary biomedical frameworks. His talk covered TCM's syndrome-based classification, herbal formulae, and the dynamic modification of formulae based on pattern transformation.

He also encouraged interdisciplinary dialogue on redefining disease classification and advancing combinatorial therapeutic strategies by leveraging big data, artificial intelligence, and data science methodologies.

To foster informal engagement and collaboration, the HKBU Research Office hosted a dinner cruise for AE members, representatives from local and overseas universities, and HKBU's senior management and research staff. Against the backdrop of Hong Kong's iconic Victoria Harbour, the evening provided a relaxed setting for meaningful exchanges and relationship-building among international peers.

The second day of activities featured a visit to the HKBU campus by a distinguished delegation of AE members and university leaders. Participants included Professor Qin Lin (CUHK; Executive Director of TEA-NET Asia), Professor Péter Ferdinandy (Semmelweis University), Professor David Rubinsztein (University of Cambridge), Professor Ma Daqing (Imperial College London / Zhejiang University), Professor Zsuzsanna Helyes (University of Pécs), and Professor Mart Saarma and Arun Kumar Mahhato (University of Helsinki), among others.

The delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with key researchers and representatives from the School of Chinese Medicine (SCM), focusing on thematic areas such as neuroscience, extreme environment research, space medicine, and ageing. These conversations highlighted SCM's growing role in translational research—bridging traditional Chinese medicine principles with cutting-edge biomedical applications to address complex health challenges.
