HKBU Distinguished Lecture by Prof Tang Tao

Prof Tao Tang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of BNU-HKBU United International College, delivered a distinguished lecture titled “Reliable Prediction by Mathematics and Computing” on 19 April 2022.

As the third leg of Science, joining theory and experiment, scientific computing has been playing an important role to understand the complex world. It is the target for the computational scientists to attack unsolvable problems by using advanced mathematical methods and high-performance technology. Prof Tang reviewed in his lecture the history of computing and discussed the current development and challenges in the field. He also demonstrated how mathematics is used to provide the basis for transformational advances in scientific computing.

The lecture was part of the HKBU Distinguished Lecture Series 2022 that aims to bring leading researchers from the field of interdisciplinary research to talk about current grand challenges. Co-organised by the Institute of Creativity (IoC) and the Research Office, the lecture attracted over hundred virtual audiences from the HKBU community.
