The Institute of Creativity (IoC) hosted a highly successful seminar featuring distinguished editors from the rising academic journal, The Innovation. The event, held on September 27, 2024 (Friday), attracted a full house of both experienced and young scholars eager to gain insights from the editorial team.
The seminar welcomed Professor Chen Ke, Director General of The Innovation, who shared a wealth of knowledge and updates about The Innovation journals. The presentation provided a detailed background of the journals, highlighting their mission and the exciting developments on the horizon. One of the key highlights was the establishment of The Innovation Academy (TIA) in Hong Kong, a new initiative aimed at fostering a collaborative environment for researchers to connect and grow.
Professor Chen was then joined by Professor Wang Gang and Professor WANG Huaiyu from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) for a highly interactive discussion. The speakers provided valuable insights into what they are looking for in scholarly publishing, offering attendees an opportunity to understand the editorial perspective and manuscript submission and review processes. They outlined the Journal’s development plans for the near future, emphasising its role as a hub for innovative research and academic collaboration.
The seminar was met with great enthusiasm, with attendees describing it as enriching, engaging, and highly informative. It extended into a lunch buffet, allowing guests and participants to continue their intellectual conversations. The event not only provided a platform for knowledge exchange but also strengthened bonds within the academic community, especially for veteran scholars and young researchers.
With the 2023 Impact Factor being 33.2, just behind the two prestigious journals Nature and Science, The Innovation has quickly established itself as a rising star in the academic world. Launched in 2020 by over 100 next-generation scientists, this broad-scope, open-access journal publishes both basic and applied research with significant societal impact. The Editorial Board comprises 196 members from 21 countries, covering a wide range of scientific disciplines.
The IoC of HKBU has been at the forefront of strengthening the research culture, nurturing a critical mass of research talents, and enhancing research performance on campus. To further promote interdisciplinary and theme-based research, the IoC is launching a series of new initiatives, including this Editors’ Series. Stay tuned for updates.
