



Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has 63 of its scholars recognised for their exceptional work in Stanford University’s 2025 World’s Top 2% Scientists list. These scholars are mainly global leaders in key fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Environmental Science, Medicinal Chemistry and Life Science, underscoring the University’s research strengths in technology and health science.
The research excellence of HKBU is highlighted by five scholars placed within the top three in China.
In the field of Complementary & Alternative Medicine, Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development), secured the 5th position for the single-year citation category. Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Associate Vice-President (Clinical Chinese Medicine), ranked 6th for the same category. They are the top two researchers in China for this field.
Professor Christy Cheung, Chair Professor in Information Systems and Digital Innovation Management, ranked 3rd in China for the single-year citation category. Globally, she placed 29th for the single-year citation category in the Information Systems field. Professor Zhang Jianhua, Chair Professor in Biology, has achieved a global rank of 95th for his career-long research impact for Plant Biology & Botany, placing him 2nd among all researchers in China. Professor Daniel Lai, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Chair Professor in Social Sciences, ranked 83rd globally and 2nd in China in Gerontology.
The prestigious ranking, compiled by a research team from Stanford University based on Scopus data, assesses the 100,000 top scientists who are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields based on key indicators, including citation impact and research output.
