Creativity is crucial not only in academic disciplines but in all spheres propelling the development and enhancement of our civilization. It lies at the heart of the advancement of science, technology, business, humanities, social sciences, and society at large. Outstanding creative people who excel at innovation tend to differ from others in that they have a high level of intellectual power to break through, to cross boundaries, to amalgamate, to be imaginative, to push frontiers and to foster far-reaching vision, and they are capable of diverse ways of thinking. The above highlights the important linkage between creativity and education, because the latter is the cradle of the former while the former is the fruit of the latter.

With the vision of becoming the leading higher education institution for creativity, Hong Kong Baptist University established the Institute of Creativity (IoC) to strengthen the research culture, nurture a critical mass of research talent, sharpen the research performance and further promote the development of interdisciplinary research and theme-based research on campus. Led by renowned scholars in different academic disciplines, outstanding business leaders, successful entrepreneurs and industrialists from different sectors, the Institute will be a high-powered think tank where students, researchers and faculty members of the University can interact and exchange ideas with world-class scholars.

The Institute of Creativity aims to:

  • provide a home and workplace for eminent scholars to pursue enduring knowledge in diverse academic disciplines
  • promote the necessary link between top-level cutting-edge research and teaching;
  • serve as a regional hub for trans-disciplinary knowledge transfer;
  • spearhead both fundamental and applied research relevant to the region's socio-economic development, and addressing societal concerns; and
