
Cracking the Code to Grant Success: HKBU Research Mixer Inspires Winning CRF, YCRG and RIF Proposals

At the “Research Mixer: Ace Your Grant Applications” hosted by the Research Office on 10 December 2025, participants learned tips and first-hand experiences from previous awardees of the Research Grants Council (RGC)’s Collaborative Research Fund (CRF), Research Impact Fund (RIF) and Young Collaborative Research Grant (YCRG) on how to apply for these grants successfully.

Professor Qiu Jianwan from the Faculty of Science, an awardee of the CRF for the project “Genomic Insights into Environmental Adaptation and Diversity of Deep-sea Siboglinidae”, emphasises the importance of building strong interdisciplinary teams and articulating clear research objectives that address pressing societal challenges.

Professor Daphne Mah Ngar-Yin from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences , an awardee of the RIF for the project “Exploring the Role of Big data Analytics in Promoting Smart Low-carbon cities: A human-centered, Community-based, and Deep Engagement Approach in Hong Kong” , stresses the importance of highlighting real-world impact and policy relevance in proposals.

Professor Han Bo from the Faculty of Science, a YCRG awardee for his project “Towards Trustworthy Foundation Models under Imperfect Scenarios”, shares his experience in his video and encourages young scholars to cultivate collaborative networks and develop bold, innovative research ideas that align with HKBU’s strategic priorities.

The event includes a Q&A session followed by a networking reception. Over refreshments, participants continued to exchange ideas on effective grant strategies and potential research collaborations.
