HKBU analytical chemist Professor Zongwei Cai has been included in Stanford University’s list of the world’s top 2% of scientists in 2019. Professor Cai, the Kwok Yat-Wai Endowed Chair in Environmental & Biological Analysis and Director of the State-key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis, was the highest-rated among the four analytical chemists on the Stanford’s list from Hong Kong SAR.

The Stanford-listed scholars have demonstrated substantial influence in various disciplines through the publication of multiple highly cited papers ranked according to citation impact in 2019. The list identifies the top 2% of scientists in their own areas of specialty, whose publications are most frequently cited by other authors across the world.

Professor Cai focuses on mass spectrometry-based metabolomics, proteomics and imaging analysis for research on disease and human health.  He has published over 600 papers in international refereed journals, including Nature Protocol, PNAS and Small Methods (as corresponding author), as well as Cell, PNAS, Nature Communication,  Gastroenterology, Cancer Research and JACS (as co-author).
