HKBU, the Chinese Institute of Hong Kong of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and the HKBU Shenzhen Research Institute have jointly established the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Base (Shenzhen) to foster transdisciplinary collaboration in humanities and social sciences across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The plaque unveiling ceremony for the Base was held on 15 March at the Virtual University Park in Shenzhen.
The ceremony was officiated by Professor Alex Wai, President of HKBU; Professor Huang Ping, President of the Chinese Institute of Hong Kong of CASS; Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU; Professor Daniel Lai, Dean and Professor Yang Chun, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at HKBU; and Professor Cheung Yiu-ming, Dean of the HKBU Shenzhen Research Institute. The ceremony was attended by local government officials and leaders in humanities and social sciences from several major GBA universities.
The Base aims to implement the academic cooperation consensus between HKBU and CASS. By leveraging Shenzhen’s geographical advantages, HKBU’s academic resources, and the research strengths of CASS, the Base will promote the internationalisation and advancement of humanities and social sciences research in the region.
The three parties will facilitate academic exchanges and student visits, joint academic programmes and events, collaborative research, and academic resource sharing. The Base will focus on key areas such as the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of humanities and social sciences research; governance and policy implications of digital transformation; integration of technology, innovation, and social development in GBA; and regional collaboration strategies that enhance global competitiveness.
