HKBU organises innovative AI competition
Professor Liu Jiming addresses the participants.

Co-hosted by HKBU’s Faculty of Science and the Department of Computer Science, together with the Hong Kong Society of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, the opening/briefing of an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) competition named “AI x HK OpenCup 2022” was held on 24 September. Over 600 participants from secondary schools and tertiary institutions attended the contest in person or online.

Focusing on the four sustainability development goals of the United Nations – namely good health and well-being, quality education, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action – participants came up with innovative AI solutions to address one of these challenges in the Hong Kong context.

In his opening speech, Professor Liu Jiming, Associate Vice-President (Research Development), said: “AI encourages us to think out of the box, and it stimulates our innovative ideas. Through this competition, you will discover more possibilities of what AI can do and how it can have a positive impact on our society.”

The final pitch and award presentation ceremony will be held in November.
