We are thrilled to announce that three outstanding HKBU researchers have been awarded the highly competitive RGC RFS and SRFS 2023/24, of which only ten places are available annually for all academic disciplines for each scheme. Dr Huang Yajun, Wendy, from the Faculty of Social Sciences, is delighted to be awarded RFS, while Professor Cheung Yiu Ming and Professor Zhou Changsong from the Faculty of Science are pleased to be awarded SRFS.

HKBU will receive remarkable fellowship grants of over HK$20 million in total for the scheme awardees, which is HK$5 million for our RGC Research Fellow Dr Huang, and around HK$15 million for our RGC Senior Research Fellows Professor Cheung and Professor Zhou.

The reviewers gave a high compliment for Dr Huang’s RFS project entitled “Power the Movement to Get Kids Moving: Development and Evaluation of a Report Card on Active Healthy Lifestyle for the Early Years” and found it a carefully considered study with implications that are crucial for Hong Kong society.

Both Professor Cheung and Professor Zhou received great acclaim for their submitted research proposals from the selection panel. Professor Cheung’s research proposal is entitled “Facial Reenactment in a Monocular Video Stream for Speaker Verification and Its Applications” and Professor Zhou’s is named “Stiffness in Nonlinear Brain Connectome: Identifying Effective Strategies for Modulating Neurocognition and Treating Neuropsychiatric Disorders”. Their projects are expected to have significant impact both within and beyond the region.

It came as an uplifting news to the entire HKBU research community, encouraging them to initiate more inspiring research projects for the good of both the research community and the human society.
