School of Communication co-organises first tri-university symposium on emerging media

BACK

In response to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the School of Communication, together with the Institute of Communication Studies of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and the School of Media and Communication at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, co-organised the inaugural international symposium in Taiwan in March. The two-day tri-university symposium, titled “Emerging Media for Communicating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, brought together scholars and other experts from diverse fields to share and exchange research findings.

Professor Wei Ran, Associate Dean (Research and Development) of the School of Communication, chaired the opening ceremony. He highlighted the pressing global challenges and emphasised the role of emerging media and technologies in fostering a sustainable future.

Ten HKBU representatives, including faculty members and research postgraduate students from the School of Communication, participated in the symposium. Their presentations covered a range of topics, including the media’s impact on sustainable development, the influence of social media on humans’ mental health and well-being, and the proliferation of misinformation and its adverse societal impact.

The next symposium will be held in Shanghai in 2025. It will be HKBU’s turn to be the host in 2026.
