The Department of Computer Science organised the 24th Postgraduate Research Symposium on 18 June 2021.

The 24th Postgraduate Research Symposium organised by the Department of Computer Science was successfully held on 18 June 2021. This annual event aims to take stock of students’ research progress, enhance their performance and allow exchange of ideas among professors and students.

This year, Prof Mang Ye from Wuhan University was invited to deliver a talk titled “Open-world Visual Learning and Its Applications”. In his talk, Prof Ye shared with participants his experiences of pursuing PhD and research. He also introduced his research works on open-world visual learning and its applications from the aspects of unsupervised learning from large-scale unlabeled data, robust deep learning from noisy data and cross-modality matching from multi-modality data. The talk was well received with constructive interaction among some 80 participants.

Following this talk by Prof Ye, 39 postgraduate students presented their research work covering a wide range of topics including Database Management, Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Information System, Data Mining, Health Informatics, Complex System, Autonomy-oriented Computing, and Networking and Optimisation.

The 24th Postgraduate Research Symposium also presented the awards to following students in recognition of their outstanding research performance:
