Dr Zhao Jun, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Science of HKBU, has been awarded over HK$1.3 million from MTR Research Funding (MRF) Scheme 2023 for his project entitled “Catalytic Conversion of Municipal Solid Waste to Hydrogen as a Clean Fuel for Sustainable Transportation”.

With the awarded funding, Dr Zhao will explore the hydrogen production technology for powering sustainable and efficient transportation, with the aim of reducing waste and greenhouse gas emissions, producing clean energy and reducing the reliance on fossil fuels. His project also has the potential to promote the use of clean energy and the growth of the hydrogen economy. Dr Zhao aspires to create new knowledge and innovation in waste utilisation, catalysis, sustainable transportation and future energy through this project.

The annual MRF Scheme, a funding scheme administered by the MTR Academy, supports research projects from all disciplines that address future transport challenges.
