Professor Gao Meng and Dr Xavier Wong awarded China’s Excellent Young Scientists Fund 2023

Two HKBU researchers, Professor Gao Meng from the Department of Geography of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Dr Xavier Wong, Associate Professor of the Teaching and Research Division of the School of Chinese Medicine, have been awarded the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Hong Kong and Macau) under the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), an organisation managed by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). 


Each awardee will receive a funding of RMB 2 million to support his/her awarded project. With the funding support, Professor Gao will embark on a project entitled “Numerical Modelling of the Formation of Aerosol and Its Interactions with Weather/Climate”, which explores the relationship between aerosol (tiny particles suspended in a gas) and the weather and climate, while Dr Wong will work on his health-related project “Investigating the molecular mechanism and the therapeutic strategy for type 2 diabetes”. 


The Excellent Young Scientists Fund is highly competitive and is granted annually to support young scientists with outstanding achievements in basic research to conduct innovative research in their areas of interest and expertise.
